phantasma

2020 | Couple of fine art printing on hahnemuhle paper, cm 50x70

Two images show three-dimensional reconstructions of the lunar surface areas on which the moon landings occurred, particularly during the Apollo 15 and Apollo 17 missions. The astronaut Ed White becomes here an omniscient presence and comments on the places of the moon missions in which he was unable to take part because of his premature death*, but which somehow also happened thanks to his contribution. The expected but not lived experience therefore remains sensation, generating a permanence of the sensory state, that suspended condition that Aristotle calls phàntasma.

*he died at the age of 37 due to an accident during the Apollo 1 simulation, in Cape Canaveral - USA, so he never saw the lunar surface.
